Previously the Gap shop, the current business isn’t exactly a pub, more of a café bar with the emphasis on the café bit. No draught ales, just a couple of what look like upside down tripods dispensing megakeg lagers, It was friendly enough, the staff were pleasant, but it just didn’t do it for me. There are more appealing café bars in Bath if that’s your thing, but it isn’t mine

A recent opening in a former clothes store at the lower end of Bath’s premier shopping street, this is as much a restaurant as a pub, but there is nonetheless a bar counter which you are quite welcome to approach (despite the “Please wait here to be seated” sign in the entrance) and some of the seating at the front of the pub certainly looked more geared up for drinking than dining and there were also a number of bar stools at the counter.
Décor wise it’s fairly contemporary, but also with one or two Art Deco influences. Flooring was some sort of dark wood strip, with pale blue paintwork on the top part of the walls and cladding down below. Elsewhere was some very patterned wallpaper, and an extremely fake looking fireplace. Seating was a mixture of fitted banquet seating, curved arm chairs and sofas, either in pale patterned blue or burnt orange. The rear area which was presumably more for dining, was broadly similar in terms of décor, but with somewhat less colour and patterned tiling on the floor. Various pot plants were scattered around and there were a few pieces of artwork in one corner.
Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap, just something called Curios on keg, which appeared to be an American IPA. The solitary cider meanwhile was Stowford Press. There were a number of cocktails though, and I went for the Pornstar Martini which was very pleasant and served with half a pomegranate as well as a sperate shot of Prosecco. Prices seemed a bit steep though, with the cocktail and a G&T coming in at only a few pence short of £20.
