A very attractive hotel in beautiful grounds and with great views across the valley. The bar is at the far corner when approaching from the road or the car park, the entrance having a very helpful sign saying PUSH, as the door can be stiff. This leads to a fairly small room with an attractive bar counter at the far end, near to bay window. There are two hand pumps, one of them having a reversed pump clip. It looks like real ale is not available at quieter periods, though there are keg beers. I just had a coffee and enjoyed sitting in a pleasant room with the owner and a couple of other customers. Being a long way out of the village I can't envisage much passing trade apart from walkers coming off Helm Crag in summer, but this is a nice facility for guests staying at the hotel or at others nearby.
