Cuckoo is a craft bar in an old retail unit with a floor to ceiling glass frontage that looks onto a couple of picnic tables on the path outside. Inside there’s some open plan seating on the laminate flooring throughout, some beer fridges mid-way up the left-hand wall and a serving counter across the rear. There was a large student crowd during a recent Wednesday early evening visit and the background music was also very studenty, like the Cure but not as good. I went for two thirds of the Verdant which set me back £4, I wasn’t a fan. I didn’t really take to this place so I’ll not be revisiting.

We called in here on a Sunday afternoon when there was a raging storm of wind and rain. For some unknown reason the barman had the double doors wide open to the elements. Thought maybe he was trying to air the place. So we took our beers up to the first floor and we were there a good hour and the front double doors were still open. Later on that evening when passing the same guy was sitting near the front window, not a soul in there and guess what, the double doors were still open.
Beerwise one cask which was decent Deya Gardeners Ale, plus we also went for the Vault City Stoopid Black Forest Gateau sour at £6 a half for a 6.5%, served in a proper Vault City glass.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Cuckoo Taproom & Bottleshop
Craft beer and bottle shop of micro-pub proportions. One's attention is drawn to the chalkboard list above the keg taps on the bar-back as this faces you as you enter. However, on closer inspection, there are also a pair of handpumps behind the counter, and one of the was pouring ZZ Hop hazy pale from Arbor (£2.80, half) on my brief stop before catching a train. Being busy, but not crowded, on a Saturday afternoon, and this place made quite a good impression on my first visit.
