This one wasn’t in the GBG six years ago so I was looking forward to seeing what lay in store. It’s an intriguing Gothic building which clearly wasn’t built as a pub and has been converted to pub use fairly recently (‘formerly home to Sir Robert Peel's Tamworth Savings Bank’ WhatPub tells me) and it is not obviously a pub unless you are ITK. I wasn’t disappointed either; it’s a tight warren of rooms, each with its own atmosphere. Notes were sparse by the stage but I can report that my Espresso Martini Cinder Toffee Stout was excellent (NBSS 4) and I will absolutely call back next time in town.

There's something of Gentleman's Club feel here in the 2 drinking rooms, with leather armchairs (which could do with a bit more padding) and low tables. The bar is in a third room with 5 cask ales on the bar, along with 3 German beers from ABK. I was clocked as likely to be a CAMRA member with a discount freely offered.

Background music was classic rock (The Doors at time of writing), at exactly the right background volume.

Choose a better seat, peruse the range (I opted for an English IPA from a brewery I can't recall) and you can easily settle in for a session.

Another, welcome, winner in Tamworth.
The Old Bank House is an imposing, early Victorian, 1845, building on an attractive street adjacent to the, equally attractive and impressive, castle.
The interior seems to have been left largely unmolested with a black and white tiled entrance hall floor with wooden floored rooms either side complete with original windows, coping, ceiling roses and a feature, exposed brick wall. Those are traditionally decorated with cast iron radiators, wood panelling, real fire places, Victorian lighting and leather sofas. It’s all very welcoming.
The small, wood panelled bar is at the back and was cosy with chatty locals on our visit.
Cask ales on were: Timothy Taylor/Northern Monk Northern Rising, Saltaire Raspberry Blonde, Neptune Bock and Festbier - both Oktoberfest specials and Left Handed Giant All Square. An interesting line up which the knowledgeable governor was happy to talk us through and make recommendations.
Both Neptune beers proved to be excellent and very easy to drink despite being 6% and over.
An unusual and likeable place to enjoy a good range of well kept beers.
