As the name suggests it is a Masonic lodge but there’s no need to join the Freemasonry to go in for a drink. Inevitably it is a club in all respects so no pub like features and as a masonic hall there is a mural in the bar showing the Masons Lodges from Durham to Chester Le Street and beyond along the river Wear. The main bar is unmarked but is to the right as you enter, toilets on the left. A long thin room, the counter is at the far end with its four pulls, Madri on a solo and a T-bar of five standard kegs.
Casks were Anarchy Blonde Star, Waddy 6X a long way from Wiltshire and Liberation Waverider an even longer way from the Channel Islands. I was less than impressed at being offered a beer poured “only” 10 minutes ago rather than a fresh pour. However that aside it was club prices and the beer was top notch. It has banquette seating and a few screens. The opening hours are short during the week but its’ location just down the hill from the station makes it a good first or last call.

Whilst I'd toured the pubs and clubs of Chester-Le-Street previously, I'd missed out on a trip to the Masonic Centre with its excellent club bar, which is also open to non-members.
Arriving on a Sunday lunchtime, this is clearly a popular place for a Sunday lunch, with a separate room set aside for diners.
4 ales are available. On Sunday, these were Darwin Galapagos, Cheviot Trig Point & Harbour Wall & Firebrick Blaydon Brick. I opted for the Galapagos, which was a stout that had been on for a while.
One of the better options in the town for a decent pint.
