A busy cocktail bar, with real ale mentioned on the outside, so I had to go in. There's only so much cocktail shaking I can take as a spectator sport, and when a customer who had just had two very complicated ones taken to his table came back to ask for four more drinks to be added to his table I admit I had a little moment. The barman very calmly explained that he hadn't started on that customer's second round yet, and I would be next. I apologised, and said that my anxiety stemmed from only wanting a half of cask beer and envisaging myself disappearing to the back of a never ending queue. The sole real ale (alongside four keg taps) was Abbeydale Deception, and was in very good nick and a similar price to a similar beer next door in the Ale Club. I perched on a high chair next to a shelf which was empty except for a sculpture of a dodo carrying a lamp, and contemplated extinction.
