Barista in the name is to distinguish the pub from the barber shop of the same name - and I assume the same ownership - next door. I almost called in here Sunday night but the sound of a fairly rough karaoke put me off. One of a group of smokers saw me flinch - "at least it's not jazz!". I told her I wouldn't mind some jazz, but I have sensitive ears, and rough voices are a bit much for me. Monday is another day and at 7pm a different crowd were in - or maybe the same crowd, but older and wiser.

The bar counter lives up to the name, being rugged and consisting of bolts and corrugated iron panels. More importantly, there are two shiny steel hand pumps with just one beer on, though a sample jar suggests there was once another beer a similar colour to the Mallinsons Harlequin 4.1% that I went for. Just £4 a pint and NBSS 3.5. It would have been a beautiful end to a beautiful day, but then Mr Blue Sky came on the sound system. A song that was designed to be irritating, I believe. Well, it irritates me, which is all that matters. Last orders was called at 19:45 - that's a new one for me. No wonder they were all glugging it down so fast.
