Steps up to the entrance of Albert’s Shed lead to a small arcade area where a couple of retro arcade tables can be found. The interior has been decorated to ape a large shed, or maybe a shack would be more apt. There’s a mix of wooden pallets and corrugated iron sheet across the ceiling that is also interspersed with sprigs of hops. The floor is tiled with wood grain effect tiles in the open plan seating area and white tiles around the long bar counter that runs across the rear wall. Along the centre of the pub, from left to right, are high tables and in the centre is a large coal effect gas fire pit on a large table that is surrounded by swings on ropes. These are chained to the floor to stop nutters killing themselves, or others. Booths run along the front windows and televisions throughout were advertising the pub while some background music played.
Premium keg was available, and I noted two banks of three hand pumps. Only one was in operation badged with Albert’s Ale, whatever that is. Food was being served, so I went for the full English that was on until midday. The portions were actually very good for the £7 asking price, but the huge portion of homemade beans ruined the plate with the sauce over everything. Nobody wants homemade spicy barbeque beans on their full English FFS! The service was polite, and the décor quirky, but this place isn’t aimed at the likes of me. Also, I bet it’s a nightmare at the weekend when all the kids go bowling and ice skating.
