This pub was my first venture into the centre of Tavistock, having only previously been to the now closed Trout & Tipple on the outskirts. This is a branch of Wetherspoon's located in an old pub, which helps to give it a little more character than most. There are some pleasant seating areas in places. The bar itself and also the kitchen are located in a more open space to the rear. This space is lit by skylights. There is also a glass covered drinking area to the right-hand side, as mentioned by Quinno below. I too failed to spot the well!

As I approached the bar, I could see that one of those orderly queues had appeared. There are a number of pillars next to the bar, making the space quite confined and encouraging queues to build. With the manager chatting at the end of the bar, it left just the one solitary barman. Luckily he was quite efficient and before long I managed to break the queue and stand at the bar awaiting my turn.

Spoons regulars are served here - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar were all on. Dartmoor Jail Ale is also a regular. Guests were Dartmoor Legend, Welbeck Abbey Red Feather, Phoenix Wobbly Bob & Tavistock Session Pale Ale. The Legend was being promoted as the "manager's special" at £1.49 a pint. Ciders were Lilley's Pina Colada Cider & Cherries and Berries, Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon, Weston's Old Rosie, Healey's Flattler Strawberry & Lime & Cock Eyed Pear Mania.

I opted for the local Tavistock Brewery beer, a new brewery for me. It wasn't too shabby. The usual games machines and TVs were present and this is also one of the Wetherspoon hotels.

None of the other pubs in Tavistock have ever come onto my radar. So, I suspect this place is a Godsend for local cask ale drinkers.
