This JDW hotel has been open for just over two years now. Before then it was Browns Hotel. It's a rambling old place with exposed walls and low beams. There is an inner courtyard or conservatory and the bar is situated right at the back of the building. Most people seemed to be in for food on my Saturday midday visit and I saw no evidence of the "daytime brigade".
The bar here has twelve hand pumps which had the JDW Trio of Doom and the boring Dartmoor Jail Ale doubled, Sheps Spitfire, Hook Norton Old Hooky, Wells Young's Special and Ringwood Fortyniner. I thought this was a very disappointing choice with the only four viable options being some of the dullest beers from the all year guests. I went for the Fortyniner which was in good nick.
It's a shame that a really nice venue was marred by such a rubbish beer choice.
