The notes on WhatPub call this a micropub, but it is only so if you consider its recent history as a shop, and equate shop conversion with micropub. That's lazy thinking, and in fact the pub's own Facebook page not only describes it as a traditional English pub but has a drawing of its previous existence as a pub called...The Three Cranes. Add to this the fact that it's on two floors and majors in conventional drinks like Carling and John Smiths Smooth Crap, and I think we can kick the micropub claim into touch.

As well as the 12 beer taps mentioned by Peter below, there are four hand pumps but they're not on the counter. I went for the Black Sheep Monty Python Very Silly IPA and forgot to make a note of the other beers. As Peter quite rightly says, there is nothing about the interior to suggest that this is the oldest secular building in Rotherham, dating back to the 15th century, in fact it looks totally modern with aggressive orange paint on the walls. My notes made at the time mention that service was "offhand", but at a distance of two months I can't relate anything more specific. Rotherham's pubs are generally disappointing, I find, and the only ones that I go into with any anticipation of pleasure are the Cutlers and the New York.

The Three Cranes is on two levels but only visited the downstairs part which showed no evidence of it being on of Rotherham's oldest buildings.On entry the bar is on the left with seating all along the wall on the right with 6 tables in front of this.There was 12 beer taps on the back wall of the bar with a blackboard describing each, with about half of these being your John Smiths,Carling, and other standard drinks. On football days a couple of the drinks are reduced. Overall was not over keen on this one.

This is the oldest none religious building in Rotherham and was built as a town house in 1470 and up till 1907 was called The Three Cranes. Since then it has had various uses with the last being an antique shop that closed in May 2019.It has now reopened as a pub again in August and according to Whatpub has 2 regular cask beers and 2 changing ones.
