The Church Keys is in an old slanty building which, the friendly barman informed me, is due to subsidence caused by the river. I’m not sure how true this is, but I was glad not to get my feet wet during a recent Wednesday evening visit. I couldn’t find an open entrance so ended up knocking on the window to see if it was open, yes it was, I just can’t work simple door latches. A friendly toothless pisshead at the counter to the left of the entrance found this highly amusing. Standard and premium keg were available and the lone hand pump was drawing Bateman’s XB. I went for a pint of Madri which was £4, or £5 for two, so I ordered two and gave my new grinning pal the other. Opposite the counter to the right of the entrance are some tables and there’s at least three more seating areas at the rear on the way to the toilets at the very back. This is a basic pub with background music playing off a radio behind the counter, but there was a decent midweek evening crowd in. That said, I don’t plan on returning.

Another standard pub with the bar to the left and a room to the rear containing swearing teens. One reversed hand pump - the rest keg rubbish.
