Visited in May for breakfast as part of my efforts to spread my love around the various branches of Spoons when in Liverpool for breakfast. This branch was busy at 11:15am-ish on a Friday morning, but I was able to get a seat. It did feel a bit hemmed in and crowded though compared to some places. It feels like an older style Spoons inside, natural light is limited, dark wood not helping. It's all ground floor but there is apparently a roof terrace. Unusually for Spoons, there is an open view of the kitchen to the rear of the seating area.
At the bar, two banks of six hand pulls with enough guests to choose from. My Salopian Hop Twister was a little warm but otherwise OK.
Staff were very efficient at clearing the tables.
It's not terrible, but it's a very unremarkable branch of Spoons and I feel there are better in the city centre.

Drops in and out of the Good Beer Guide.... I think CAMRA had it in for spoon in 2025, as there were no city centre ones in. This reappeared in 2026 - so to keep the city fully ticked, I managed to visit during my latest week.
As identikit a spoons as you could get.
Bad points - Architecturally dull, filthy inside. I get used to the dirty tables, but this had litter all over the floor - including what may have been a wrapped nappy.
Good points - cheap, interesting beers (Peerless IPA in fine condition) and very effecient app ordering. They must have started cooking my eggs when I thought of them - based on the speed of delivery. Plentiful charging points.
So many better pubs in Liverpool but none cheaper.
You know what you are in for, both good and bad.

Crossing over the road from the pub opposite I noted a few people sitting at café seating that runs along the wall outside of the Captain Alexander between its two entrances. After climbing the steps to the door, I learned that the right-hand entrance is just a fire exit, so I had to do the walk of shame past the café table crew to the left-hand entrance. High two-seater tables run along the front windows with a couple of rows of standard sized tables behind. The serving counter runs up the right-hand wall where it faces rows of high tables and more standard tables up the centre before booths that run up the left-hand wall to stairs at the rear that climb to a roof terrace that was closed during my recent late Monday afternoon visit. At the rear is a large kitchen hatch that looks over more standard seating. The counter supports two banks of five hand pumps that were drawing the usual three Spoons classics plus Jaipur, Exmoor Gold, Phoenix Brewery’s Arianna, Coach House’s Cheshire Gold, Conwy Brewery’s Rampart and Peerless Brewing’s Lone Ranger. The service was polite, but this is a Spoons with little character or atmosphere, even when busy.
