Visited January 2026. Three hand pulls at the bar with two of those on - Vocation Bread & Butter plus the relatively new JW Lees revival of Boddies Cask. My half of the Boddies Cask set me back £3.10 which seems a bit steep - I almost felt I was being charged for all the wastage as the barman pulled it through!

The Con Club feels very food focussed with the large area to the left set out for dining, complete with dining room bouncer waiting to seat you. To the right is a smaller but reasonable sized area geared up for drinkers, consisting of high level cushioned bench seating, high tables and high wooden stools. I'm not sure how a wheelchair user would get on in the drinking area with everything being so high level.

This is the kind of place I would normally give a 6/10 but the pricing and slightly pretentious atmosphere loses it another point from me.

As for the Boddies - it just tastes like a standard JW Lees beer, so may be brewed to an original Boddies recipe but has definitely been tainted by JW Lees flavours that I don't get along with.

It was quiet at midday on my Thursday lunchtime visit; in fact there may have been more staff than customers. I have been in here quite a few years back and it was busier, so perhaps most of its trade is in the evening.

Back to the bar, there is keg stuff available too but couldn't see it all clearly from my vantage point. The taps are on the back wall with chalk board labels behind each tap, rather than the normal branded identifiers. I spotted Guinness, Stella, Pernoi, Asahi and something by Shindigger. Possibly Kronenbourg 1664 too.

It was all nice and clean, including the gents, and well presented, but it's not really a drinking establishment and I couldn't see myself staying for a session here. In fact, I can't see myself returning at all in any hurry.

The previous review mentions a micro brewery on site - I saw no sign of this so either I missed it or it no longer exists. Considering the beer line up, I am leaning towards the latter.

This former Conservative Club is now one large room with the food part to the right and the bar to the left.there was 5 cask beers on today with Lohag being one which was a rather pricey £2 50p for half.On entry to the right is a microbrewery which can be seen through the glass window.
