A roadside pub which has the potential to be a good village local but isn't. It is more of a restaurant with a bar than a pub. When we visited we were the only drinkers, while the diners were a mix of elderly tourists and families with young children. There are two dining areas at the front, and another in a modern irregular-shaped extension at the back. The seating area by the bar in the centre is quite narrow, not enough space to sit at the bar, which causes a choke point between the front and rear seating areas. The garden at the side has been tarmacked over to provide a car park. The young staff were friendly enough but quite inefficient, though to be fair they were being kept busy by entitled diners. Ales on were Otter Bitter and Amber, plus Branscombe's Branoc. The keg choices were Otter's Tarka Four, Guinness, Thatcher's Gold, Poretti, 1664, San Miguel and Devon Red cider. I'd leave this one to the tourists.

Bit of a mixed bag really - but I do appreciate the issues that hospitality are having with staff shortages etc.
We went for a family meal - and I have to say the food was fantastic. Varied and large menu, great food and the wait on a Saturday night was what you would expect.
The beer wasn't quite as good. There was a choice of three and the Branoc Bitter from Branscombe Brewery seeming most suited to my palate. Nothing much going on condition or taste wise but I've certainly had worse.
When it slipped up was with Service - the girls were run ragged and getting a second drinks order, ordering other courses or paying the bill was a real challenge. Other people were complaining heavily and the dining room had that "sinking ship" feeling of people not quite enjoying themselves as much as they should.
After a 30 min wait to pay - we went to the bar where apologies were given and explanations were made about how staff have moved on to new careers.
We fully understand.
