Easily the pick of the four GBG 2024 entries I visited. A charming micro, run by enthusiastic expert who explained to us the process of Normandy cider production that will have me googling suppliers next.

Interesting keg and cask also on. Verdent Sundialler for me.

Single room, with a gothic mural on the wall (photo uploaded) and good music at a pleasant level. The only place in town we stayed for two - but this was as much to them letting us bring chips in.

GBG’23-listed micropub that deviates from the template with piped music, less sparse than usual and separate WCs for the sexes. Quite a decent interior with tiled flooring, traditional furniture, black, blue and grey shades. The brick wallpaper I'd usually slag but it seems to work in here. Halloween flavour in keeping with the monicker with an impressively-done, full-wall mural of a black cat in a graveyard. Four cask at the bar; 3x Cheddar and a Quantock. My Cheddar Piney Sleight came off stillage from a cool room and was surprisingly decent given that the barkeep said 'arr there should be enough left in this' – NBSS 3.5 – with a choice of handled or straight glass. Also a number of craftykeg selections and a bit of cider. On a hot sunny day a bonus here is that it doesn't directly catch the sun so is a few degrees cooler. A nice visit though it’s less of a solo drinker’s welcome compared to the Regency. But these are the two stand-out pubs in W-S-M, no doubt. 7.5

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Black Cat

Excellent micro-pub, although it was quite gloomy inside even before the sun went down. Anyway, you can probably picture what it looks and feels like, day or night... Three Cheddar Ales served on gravity, including a first-class Potholer (£4.20), plus six craft beers from keg taps on the bar-back and more ciders than I could count!
