Part of the Edmundbyers youth hostel, with the bar functioning as the reception desk, though I struggled to get to it for the scrum of locals on Sunday evening. It's a low ceilinged room with the joists from the room above exposed, and a floor made of rough cobbles. The bar counter is of recycled timber and has two hand pumps with one cask beer on at the time of my arrival, a very good Cullercoats Lovely Nelly (NBSS 4). Closing time depends on whether any customers are present, so my second pint kept the pub open for another half hour or so.
