Part of the Kirkwall Hotel (note – the hotel has a more upmarket bar in addition to this), you enter to a V-shaped modern bar hidden just off the waterfront that offers pub grub and TV sports in an interior that's a harshly lit mish-mash of styles. To the left is a pool table and a pair of flashing fruit machines. To the right is some padded booth seating with a few life rings from old boats attached to the wall and was a bit nicer. At the wood plank bar (that looked like it was knocked-up on the smallest possible budget) was a naked pump and a variety of the usual keg suspects. The best option, Orkney Dark Island, was off so a half of Heavitree lager had to suffice. There’s potential here for something quite good to happen, but it felt more like it was kept basic specifically for a certain type of customer. 4.5
