Blue Scrumpy left this review about The New Line

My last visit to Greengates was in 2019 when I visited the Albion and the nearby Cracker Barrel. The New Line was one I somehow missed out but it had only opened the year before.

First impressions were not good. There were some rather sketchy locals congregated around the entrance with a couple of Vicky Pollard lookalikes wandering past too. Undeterred, we found a very small ground floor bar with further seating upstairs. There was also outdoor space to the front and to the right-hand side of the building. Music was playing quite loud. The young barmaid appeared to have a bit of an attitude but was getting on ok with the all-male customers present.

What was more encouraging was the three handpulls. 2 cask ales were on - Timothy Taylor Landlord & Amity Albion. The third handpull was unclipped. SALT Jute was available on keg. Ciders were Aspall's & Rekorderlig. Cocktails and wines were listed on a separate board.

A TV was showing test match cricket on mute. Bingo and quiz nights were advertised and Open The Box is played on Wednesday's. Dogs are allowed in. Food appeared to be only pizzas.

I thought the New Line was better than the first impression I got but was still nothing outstanding. With the Albion now having closed, the Cracker Barrel appears to be the best pub in Greengates.

Only a stones throw from the Cracker Barrel, so well worth a visit. It was also good to see a choice of four ales on handpump, TT Landlord, Saltaire Galaxy, Wadworth St George Dragon and Little Critters Shire Horse. Prices were quite steep in here compared to the Cracker Barrel and I paid £3.50 for a pint of the Little Critters, which was in good condition, so can't complain. The interior in here was modern and was nicely laid out, to maximised the small space on the ground and first floor. I especially liked the exposed stone and timber work. The young barmaid on our visit was very friendly and very down to earth, she practically told us her life story in the short time we were there.

Small ex two up two down house now a fancy designer micro, Downstairs is tight on space with full size counter serving a full range of beers wines and spirits, upstairs is just seating and a pair of small toilets but still tight on space. Four pulls of cask from Taylor’s and Stodfold, cool and well kept. Makes a decent two hander with the Cracker Barrel and if doing a crawl by the 62 bus there's the Black Rat and the Fox in Shipley further on.
