I visited Pepys Bar on a recent Wednesday afternoon when there were ten or so other customers in the main seating area that sits under a wooden beamed ceiling. Wooden supporting pillars break this seating area up, but the agedness of this bar felt a bit fake. A large television on the wall was showing muted Sky Sports news and upcoming matches are listed on a chalkboard. There was some background music playing from the jukebox, which is free on Thursdays, and I noted that live music is held here on Saturdays. To the right of the entrance under a stone arch are a dartboard and pool table, the latter of which is free to play on Mondays. Standard keg is available from the bar. I didn’t see any food advertised but would be surprised if food isn’t available as this is part of the St James Hotel. There may be a good atmosphere when live sport is playing but I saw nothing that would see me rushing back.
