Latest Visit: 20/4/23:
Now re-opened and allowing drinkers in, this micropub was the highlight of our 10-pub Hampshire crawl. Table service is still in operation, but service is swift and efficient and this place has clearly got a good and loyal local following as tables both inside and on the small patio area outside to the front were at a premium. Those sat outside (undercover) probably weren't doing so out of choice, as the previously sunny weather had turned to rain. Many tables inside had reserved signs on. So, locals clearly know that they need to call ahead to ensure they can get a drink.
There is a good changing selection of ales and ciders, all listed on drinks menus placed on every table. Gale's HSB is the one regular ale. Guests on our visit were Downton New Forest Ale, Flower Pots Spring Loaded, Dark Revolution So.LA, Wantsum Black Prince, Acorn Hole Hearted & Eight Arch Corbel.
Ciders were Sandford Orchards Devon Red & Hangy Downs, Halletts Rum Cask, Iford Somerset Sahara, Farmer Jim's Pineapple & Passion Fruit Cider, Harry's Corker, Cowfold Silly Moo, Snail's Bank Rhubarb Cider & Very Perry, Ascension Pilot & Little Pomona Yarlington Mill Fine Dry Cider.
Craft beers were Double-Barrelled Parka, Ding & What Mrs Fisher Knows, Siren Lumina & Suspended In Talus, Burning Sky Baltic Porter, Big Drop Paradiso & Pressure Drop Pale Fire.
Original Visit 4/8/20:
The Steel Tank looks to have tried everything it can to re-open after lockdown. But they are still currently only open for take-outs.
I did managed to visit and chatted to the owners, who very generously gave me a complimentary pint of Flowerpots Gooden's Gold to take away.
Apparently, it is their small size that is stopping them from re-opening fully. Although I have been in pubs less than half of their size since lockdown.
Hopefully, they can get things up and running soon, as it will remain on my list of pubs to try.

Set in a typical 60s/70s shopping precinct, in a converted shop unit , it is decked out with basic wooden/metal seating. On the bar there are eight handpumps, six for cask beer and two for Cider, a similar number of Craft keg taps alongside them. Normally in micropubs like this I end up on the keg stuff but such was the quality of the cask offerings I stayed with them, the three I had were Vibrant Forest Summerlands 3.5%, Vibrant Forest/Butchers Hook Metamorph 5.5% and a possible beer of the year, New Bristol Irish Cream Stout, a hefty 7.0% but sublime. Just three minutes walk from the train station its well worth the trip, a good double header with the Steam Town Brew House one stop down the line in Eastleigh.
