Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Brudenell Social Club
Large music venue (formerly a social club), set back from the road by a big car park / queueing area for paid-for events, but unexpectedly (to me) full of students rather than old-timers both inside and out. Comprising three main rooms, one with a grungy live band, a games room and the side Community Room where another (more bluesy) group was playing. Three cask beers on each counter: Kirkstall Dissolution IPA, Anthology Nectaron and Craven SPA (£3.40). I came across this by chance, but was amazed about how many people were in, even for a free-admission Friday evening.

Set in an estate, this place is quite large. Room to the left, then a sports room, then a sizeable room to the right where there were quite a lot of people eating pies. The bar is in the middle with two Kirkstall Brewery hand pumps, one of which was quite strong, but as I was driving, I didn't partake.

An ugly, flat-roofed, functional building at the rear of its own car park, the Brudenell Social Club is, despite its name, a pub. (Brudenell was the family name of the Earls of Cardigan, one of whom was reputed to have said, "Well, here goes the last of the Brudenells" as he led the Light Brigade on their futile charge at the Battle of Balaclava.) Once through the front door, there is a concert room on the left and a large bar and lounge to the right. The bar counter features three hand pumps (see photo) and there are various chairs and tables dotted around the room. At tea time on a mid-week night it was surprisingly busy, with the atmosphere of a student common room, perhaps suggested by the fact that almost everyone present was either a student or had recently ceased to be one. I'm not saying this in any derogatory sense - these were well-behaved students in a neat and tidy common room of which they were evidently proud. It has, after all, won the local Camra Most Improved Pub Of The Year award. In confirmation, I have to say that service was very good and the beer also. Quite a few people were eating - pie and mash seems to be the staple dish. There was background music at a reasonable volume and there was a games room to the rear which I didn't explore. Given the pub's unpromising exterior, I would have said this was a surprisingly pleasant visit, but then I already knew about it being Most Improved Pub Of The Year.
