Ooh, now this is cool. This place has the feel of a railway arch (and there's a few in town), but actually is instead, located on the ground floor of a modern building one street back from pub-heavy Foregate Street / The Tything. The Copper Beech taproom has the super friendly service I've come to expect from these sorts of venue though without the eye watering prices that are sometimes seen - it's mostly just £5 a pint, rising to all of £6 for the strong stuff.

Obviously, it's not strong on comfort but as long as you're OK with modern craft keg (the sole handpump was redundant when I dropped in), this is a must. The Dragon's back gate is almost adjacent if you fancy an easy double-up.

Five handpumps with three in use on our visit, serving Ledbury Gold, Wye Valley Bitter and one of their own beers Sociable Shindig, which was in excellent condition, a good session ale at £3 a pint. The staff were friendly and welcoming, plus some live music on our Saturday eve visit.

A brew bar tucked away in a nasty 60s building. Two rooms separated by a section that looks like it gets used as an area for performances. Grey painted brick walls and a general air of wannabe edginess which I didn’t take to. The brewery is located behind the bar in the left hand room. On my Saturday visit there were seven pumps with 5x Sociable and two guests. The Sociable Black IPA was fine (NBSS 3) another came out proper flat and its grudging replacement was not much better (NBSS 2) with staff appearing unconcerned that they were failing to showcase the entire point of the place – good quality local beer - as no effort was made to check the source of the listless liquid. Noted a keg wall with 10 on, and all the beers were displayed on an electronic board. Very reasonable prices all-round, 3 quid for their cask and 4 for keg. Overall I didn’t like the place much, though as semi-regular visitor to Worcester I imagine I will be pulled in again so hopefully a better experience awaits me sometime in the next couple of years. 5.5
