Stepping off the train at Battlesbridge felt like a world away from London, where I had just travelled from. Only one other passenger alighted the train and we both left the deserted station and headed for the Battlesbridge Antiques & Craft Centre. My fellow passenger made a beeline for a shop called Nerd Base. I continued round the corner to One Green Bottle, where I was the first customer of the day.

With plenty of other businesses around, mostly antiques vendors, this micropub is situated in a cabin-like structure. It is a single room with a stone floor and a rug near the bar. There are beer and motorcycle-related pictures on the grey painted walls. Many pumpclips line the beams. Music was playing quite loud when I arrived, presumably for the benefit of the landlady/barmaid. She quickly turned it down. To the front, there is a largely covered outdoor seating area overlooking the antiques centre.

This micropub is listed in the Good Beer Guide. Beers and ciders are listed on boards above the bar. 4 cask ales were Mighty Oak Gorgeous George & Captain Bob, Mauldon's Pale Ale & Wadworth Henry's IPA. Ciders were Gwynt y Ddraig Ancient Warrior & Celtic Warrior, Abrahall's Lily The Pink & Lilley's Peach Cider. Fridges behind the bar and to the left-hand side also sell various cans and bottles. No food is served but bar snacks, such as rolls, cakes, pickled eggs and gherkins, along with Magnums & Calippos are on sale.

Various events such as a Jam Night in June are held. Morris men also visit. Dogs are welcome. I remained the only customer during our visit and my departure from the pub seemed to make the barmaid jump, just as my arrival had done!

This place is a bit out of the way and whilst I haven't been to the Hawk (near the station), One Green Bottle is infinitely better than the Barge, which I visited in 2018. My review of that place on another site concluded "we left this pretentious place behind in search of a decent pub. Incidentally, I later noted that a micropub has opened in the Antiques Centre complex. I'm sure that is a far better option." Apparently, I was correct.
