Much as described below, though the ‘rustic makeover’ is somewhat contrived and appeals more to the many tourists and anorak-clad ramblers that pass by than to local drinkers. There is a large car park, which is essential given how difficult it is to park in the village at busy times. The staff were functional rather than welcoming, but I suppose they have to put up with a lot of grockle nonsense. There is plenty of outside seating and a terraced garden. Ales on were Butcombe Rare Breed and Original, in good condition Ashton Press cider and Thatcher’s Dry were on, plus Guinness, Underfall and Bohemia pils.it was a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a nice pint, but I suspect it gets rather crowded and frustrating on warm weekends.

An attractive stone-built pub in this very pleasant village, there is some landscaped and terraced gardens to one side to make the most of the views over the valley. Internally it’s clearly had something of a makeover and whilst it does have something of a contemporary feel to it, it has still managed to retain much of it’s original charm and character.
The main bar runs along the front of the pub, with a smaller room up a couple of steps to the right which looked to be more intended for dining. Flooring was a mixture of slate style tiles and sanded wooden boards, whilst the walls were predominantly cream plasterwork with khaki green wood panelling on the lower part. Large stone fireplaces were at either end of the bar, and a few logs were crackling away in a wood burning stove. This was certainly a comfy spot with a couple of leather arm chairs just in from the fire, and a small beer barrel to rest your glass on. The back wall was covered with shelves of books and had stacks of logs below which made something of a feature. Being a recent renovation, there were of course plenty of exposed filament might bulbs, including some low hanging ones just above the bar counter.
The menu offered a number of vegetarian options including a spiced polenta and chickpea burger or a chestnut, sprout, celeriac and puy lentil pie although also more standard pub fayre such as a burger of fish & chips. Prices were a bit above your normal pub prices, with most of the main courses being somewhere in the region of £15. My mushroom and garlic butter chicken Kiev was certainly a generous portion with some great skinny fries, but a little lacking in the garlic butter I thought.
Beers on tap were Lincoln Green’s Misty Autumn Morning, Box Golden Bolt and Wantsum Black Prince. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher’s Gold along with Core Blimey and Toodle Pip from Box Clever Ciders. All in all, a lovely pub and well worth checking out.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Inn at Freshford
Very attractive inn overlooking the water meadows on the edge of the village near the River Frome bridge. The place has been given a rustic makeover inside the front bar, with a slightly more refined side lounge area and main dining area beyond. Very busy with those eating on a Sunday afternoon. Four of five handpumps in operation, offering three from Box - Golden Bolt (£3.60), Tunnel Vision and Piston Broke - plus Dark Star APA as the guest beer.
