Blue Scrumpy left this review about Brecon Tap
One of two Brecon pubs/bars in the 2026 Good Beer Guide, the Brecon Tap enjoys a good position on a main shopping street. It is a long and fairly narrow cafe bar with laminate flooring. There were plenty of customers drinking coffee and tea and it also had more than its fare share of kids and families.
Shelves to the left-hand side of the room are lined with lots of bottles and cans of beers, ciders and wines. The opposite wall had lots of black sheep magnets with personalised pictures on each one. The room continues up a step to further seating with the bar itself on the left-hand side. There are a couple of red Chesterfields opposite the bar and a TV can be found on the wall right at the back. There are also a couple of outside picnic tables on the pavement to the front.
Beer and cider clips behind the bar did not match a list to the side of the bar. The drinks list on Untappd was also out of date. There were 6 handpulls clipped with Monty's MPA & 1227, Glamorgan Cwrw Gorslas, 9 Lives Gold & Grey Trees Diggers Gold. A 6th clip was "coming soon". Ciders all appeared to be from Gwynt y Ddraig - Black Dragon, Welsh Warrior, Haymaker, Ancient Warrior, Pyder, Celtic Warrior, Happy Daze, Farmhouse Scrumpy & Two Trees Perry. Craft beers were Twice Brewed Deadite, Wye Valley Flower Power, Accidental Chinook, Tiny Rebel Rebel IPA & Nightjar British Stout. My 1227 was only 3% and was in a good condition but at 3% it didn't do much for me!
Cutlery and food condiments could be found on each table but I didn't see too many eating. A charity curry night was advertised in the gents. Hopefully it's not hosted in the toilets. Dogs are allowed and wifi is available.
This place felt more cafe than bar but it seems to have the best selection of beers and ciders in Brecon. So, it's worthy of a visit if you are in town.

A large, deep shop conversion with an impressive array of bottled beers from local breweries on the shelves to the left. Further back is the bar counter, on a slightly raised level. There are tables and chairs throughout, in different styles for front, middle and rear parts of the available space. Toilets are labelled in Welsh but with recognisable conventional signs for those who don't know their dynion from their merched.
On the bar are six hand pumps and numerous keg taps are on the bar back. I had Brecon Dark Beacons on my first visit here, and wasn't terribly impressed; the next day I was back and tried the same brewery's Three Beacons, which was much better. Beers from other breweries are also available, plus real cider (see photos). Food, specifically pies, is also available. I liked it here and would return for the occasional beer in draught or bottle, but it's not really a place for stopping long unless you're eating.
