Beer and Bean is a small bar and coffee house with wood floor throughout and a raised seating area in the front window. Exposed brick walls run up the left, where a bicycle hangs, and the right to a mezzanine seating area up high at the rear. The counter on the right-hand wall supports seven keg products which includes some premium euro beers, Whiplash Nitro Stout and Lilley’s Still Apple Cider. I was feeling a bit adventurous so I opted for my first cider in a few years which went down a treat. However, when I got back to my hotel room the toilet took a battering after my day of mixing ale, lager, stout, cider and coffee… Kaaaaboooom!!!

A beer cafe, mostly beer shop with a bit of coffee and a bit of cake. On two levels with counter and tables downstairs, above is a mezzanine with three tables at bench and chunky chairs. All European keg beers, cans and bottles, generally you’re shown to a table with a beer menu and will be served after perusing the menu and placing your order. Table service so not to fast but worth the wait as the beer is not the average. Obviously not one for everyone. The cake was lovely.

Modern rustic-feel (wood, exposed brickwork) coffee and beer outlet with a couple of raised areas to break things up a bit. Foreign beers on draft and bottle and to be fair it was an eclectic mix of some genuinely interesting brews rather than the usual junior drinker offerings. Mixed clientele with the cake and coffee crowd mixing with the craft sippers. Friendly service. It certainly won’t be a traditional pubman’s haunt but I thought it made a decent fist of what it was trying to do. Beware the treacherous stairs to the bogs.
