An amazing bar converted from St Peters church. It's huge inside with several areas including an upstairs (not visited). Reasonably busy on a Wednesday, early evening, but getting served can be a problem, with loads of seats for bar leaners, getting in the way. Too many handpumps really, judging by the beer quality, which was OK rather than good. We got our drinks and went and sat on the alter which is covered in tables and chairs. A great, newish venue that we'll no doubt we revisiting soon as we're often at this end of town.

Completing a walk of Liverpools religious buildings.... I never expected to get a good pint in one of the locations. This is Liverpools oldest church.

Opens at 11am - although you probably have to ask why. I was one of about three punters in after midday on a Tuesday.

An incredible church conversions - completed with the old memorials, stained glass windows and the alter. Side rooms and an upstairs. The sort of place you can spend an age having a mooch.

Impressive cask selection (2026 GBG) and my TT Landlord Dark may have been a bit pedestrian but was in fine condition.

In a city packed with interesting pubs, this is simply another one that needs to be added to the list for the pub tourist.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to win our drinking spurs at St Peter’s Tavern, Hallelujah, go forth and drink from my 12 hand pumps that overfloweth with ales from across this bright and beautiful land… OK that’s enough.
This is an old church, St Peter’s Church, that has been turned into a very interesting and must visit bar that still retains its alter on the far wall where some high seating can also now be found. A very long and a short counter, both lined with stools, run up the right of the nave facing thick wooden tables, the sort you’d expect in a church, that run up the left. In fact everything is church like from the stained glass windows, old exposed brock and bare board flooring. Both transepts have been turned into seating areas and a long decked seating area can be accessed from the left side. The furniture in this outside area looked as though it had been stolen from an Italian restaurant. Upstairs was not open during a recent Monday evening visit, but I noted two levels of balcony seating, maybe I’ll get to have a look next time.
The 12 hand pumps that I counted on the very high counters were drawing three Lilley ciders alongside a decent pint of Bass, Higson’s Pale, Northern Monk’s Sup, Black Sheep, Neptune’s Waterfront, Beartown’s Otso, Ossett’s White Rat and Salopian’s Port in a Storm. The twelfth pump had just gone off and there are four more pumps on the shorter counter towards the front, but these were just double ups and this counter was closed. The days of this place being Alma De Cuba have bought its score down so I nearly missed it, only being drawn in by the big writing on the side of the building. I’m glad I visited and I’ll make sure to revisit when next in Liverpool.
