Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Thomas Tallis

A fine old building with a traditional alehouse look inside. With two small rooms at the front and a snug back left, there's not a lot of space inside so the pavement seating out front is a welcome addition. On this long overdue revisit after nine years, I found a pair of real ales being served direct from the cask along with 11 of the 12 craft keg taps in use. However, you can't see any of those as there's no bar and table service only. After some thought, I went for the seasonally named Glasshouse Daffodil (£6.90) from the latter selection.

I had been trying to visit this one for some time, having heard great things, and my Spem in Alium was definitely rewarded – it was a brilliant visit. The landlord insists it’s not a micro, so we went with that, but it has all the features of a good micro and an excellent alehouse. The chat in the front bar was all-inclusive, the other customers were quite civilised and it was generally a very enjoyable evening – we stayed longer than intended. Dogs are allowed in but not on the sofas, children are allowed in if well behaved, no cash is allowed as the barman doesn’t want to catch Covid off it and mobile phones are not permitted. Cask ales on were Goff’s Doctor Sunshine and one from Tonbridge. My only criticism is the balance between cask and craft, but that’s me being really picky. I’ll definitely be back.

This bar-less micropub in an ancient building a couple of streets away from the cathedral is worth a visit just for being there: the beer is a bonus. My visit was towards the end of the evening, and having selected my half of Four Candles East Kent Bitter (from the three cask ales from that brewery - all the other beers were kegged) I found a seat and took advantage of the pub's wifi to keep abreast of the football scores on my mobile. The only two teams that could stop the Hatters being promoted both lost their matches, so I had a quiet celebration and found a special place in my memory for the Thomas Tallis.
