Located in an old butchers shop, the Butchers is a café bar that had two other customers during a recent early Monday evening visit. The floor is a little odd with black and white tiles and small rectangles of parquet flooring, which I assume has something to do with being a butchers. A chandelier hangs from the ceiling and gild framed pictures and prints hang on the left hand wall that is white tiled up to about chest height, as is the rear wall where a television also hangs. There was a quiz page on the screen so I assumed that my visit was not long before a Monday night quiz. Fridges and some cabinets store bottled beers along the front right wall and the high topped angled serving counter sits in the right rear corner. Premium keg was available alongside cask Ossett’s White Rat which was very well kept. I though the two young barmaids were very friendly and even though this is a little too café for my liking I would still pop back in if passing.

I quite liked this one, the staff were friendly and the beer condition was superb. When enquiring about the old Butchers shop, we received a file with original photos of the shop and the work in progress converting it into the café bar it is today. The bar is situated in the back right hand corner and was finished in a stained rosewood colour and the counter top was in black granite. The walls were mostly tiled with some of the originals near the window. There was also a ships porthole opening out from the kitchen. A large glass chandelier took pride of place in the central part of the front seating area. Two beers on handpump, so I went for The Adnams Ghostship and Big Bog Brewery Stog Milk Stout, both of which were in excellent condition.

This used to be a butcher shop, hence the name. The tiled floor and walls still remain as do the hook rails hanging from the ceiling. A very high bar is to the rear right hand corner as you enter. The place is set up like a cafe. 3 real ales are available with Titanic Plum Porter, Red Star Havana Moon and Parker Brewery Saxon Red Ale on today. To the side of the bar is a cabinet and a couple of chillers filled with bottled beers. Though its more cafe like than pub it is nice enough for just a drink. Oh and though its by West Allerton train station its actually in Mossley Hill.
