The Devonport Arms is a large pub in the back Streets off Totnes Road. My recent visit was on a Monday afternoon when there were a handful of customers in the centre bar. Sky is advertised, but as there was no sport being played the two plasma screens were both showing Emmerdale Farm with the volume cranked up. This sound was competing with the loud R&B that was coming from the public bar that is located through a door to the left. In here there is a dartboard and a pool table that was being used by a group of teenagers. To the right of the centre bar is a larger bar that looked a lot quieter, but I didn’t spot it until I was outside and it was empty anyway.
One of the three hand pump on the bar was unused leaving Doom Bar and Courage Best as the ale options. The draught is very limited with only Fosters, Kronenburg, Carling and John Smiths being available. The only food I saw advertised was the meat raffle that occurs every Saturday evening.
Out the back is an untidy yard with a mishmash of garden furniture and a covered smoking area.
The locals and woman on duty were friendly enough, but I’ll not be rushing back here.
