Thursday morning, 11:00, and there were a few people in for breakfast which seems to be something the place has a reputation for (but why add Yorkshire pudding?!). I guess this is better called a cafe bar than a micropub, but at least the beer is front and centre when you arrive. I had a very nice pint of Zapato Tent, but passed on the breakfast having already eaten. I feel sure that I will call in again in the future, if only for a quick visit on the way to the Duck & Drake.

A long term GBG entry,I was intruiged why this was the case which drew this visit.It's a shop conversion,well done with the small bar to the immediate right,the room stretching back with a step up and a first floor area closed off on my visit apart from access to the unisex lavs.Furniture has that cafe feel and there is a small courtyard beer garden out the back.
Pump clips adorn every surface,clearly ale rotates here,and the welcome from the young barman was friendly ,helpful with tasters offered.The vibe is of a modern ale bar/cafe with a selection of coffees & cakes,variety of alcoholic drinks and three handpumps.On my trip that gave a choice of Theakstons Old Peculier,Grilled Saint St Laurence Gold and an excellent Vocation Naughty & Nice (NBSS 4.5).There is some indie beer but not extensive.
It's a welcoming place,will attract a wide range of customers including music fans in the evening and worth including on a real ale crawl list despite the limited number of ale options.The name comes from a very old name for administrative districts in the Ridings as explained above the bar.

My first visit to this well known bar and it coincided with not just one but both of the cask beers turning out to be "off". The young man behind the bar coped with this disaster admirably, and offered me any other beer or a free drink if I came back later. I went for Kirkstall Virtuous on keg (others included a Brew York lager and a keg version of a Vocation beer, but I've already forgotten which one as their names are all the same. I'll have to come back some time as it's a pleasant sort of place - well described by the previous reviewer - but I'm honestly more likely to go straight past to the Duck & Drake. Sorry.
