Penny Hedge is a large L-shaped Marstons pub and restaurant that is popular with holidaymakers due to rooms in an outbuilding opposite the entrance and a large car park that allows campervans at the rear. There’s a central L-shaped serving counter that faces seating across the front and lots more up the left-hand side. There are picnic tables up the left side of the pub to a children’s play area at the rear. Standard and premium keg were available alongside Wainwright, Hobgoblin and Pedigree from the four hand pumps. Staying in one of the rooms I had breakfast here in the morning, which was OK, but I wouldn’t order the cooked breakfast again. The staff were friendly and the room was relatively cheap for summer holidays, so this placed served it’s purpose.

Much as you would expect for a Marstons food pub. We called in for a meal which was very good. Three ales on - Hobgoblin, Pedigree and Wainwrights. Not the most interesting choice but still a choice!

Modern new build pub on outskirts of Whitby off the main road to Scarborough. Owned by Marstons, there is a Marstons Inn next door.
Its nice enough inside, some exposed brickwork, real fires (presumably). The beer, 2xMarstons, is ok.
Its very family orientated with even a play area at the back. There is a nod to the real ale craze at present, with a platter of 3xdifferent beers offered, which fails on my visit, there only being 2 ales offered!
So its ok, a chain pub instantly, but anyone with a young family may enjoy it, its away from the hussle & bussle of Whitby, though close to the industrial estate & Sainsburys.
Traditionalist would probably prefer the nearby Windmill in Stainacre.
