Maltdog is a shop converted craft beer bar with some café seating out the front. There is seating down both side walls and a central walkway leads to the small bar counter at the rear. During my visit on Wednesday evening last week there was live music with the musicians set up in the front window. I’m not sure if it was a paid for band or open mic, but it was very popular as the place was packed. After a few pints I imagine that it is difficult to tell which of the two craft beer bars on this stretch of shops you are actually in.

A shop conversion micro pub, situated on the busy Monton Road strip,so expect circuit drinkers at popular weekend times. There is a high shelf in the front window and more traditional seating elsewhere with a wood burner to one side, while the staircase gives access to the loos. The bar is at the rear.
There is a mix of real ale,keg beers, wines and spirits and I thought the atmosphere was more small bar rather than micro pub.Muzak was playing quite loud.
There were 3 handpumps with a dull selection of low strength ales in Bad Seed Landing Beacon (cloudy ,undistinguished),Cromarty Happy Chappy (a bit better) and Goffs Fallen Angel (why?,no doubt cheap from a distributor)
Among the keg was Cloudwater IPA 6% but at £6 for two thirds,£9 per pint a total rip off. There was an Estonian IPA but the shock of the Clouwater pricing soured the visit.
Somehow this place has got into the 2019 GBG.If the owner thinks real ale types just want low strength boring beers then he misunderstands his market. Not on the list for a revisit.
