Alan Winfield left this review about The Birch
The Birch was a large and decent looking pub which was unusually set in the back streets of Guide Brige /Ashtons west end
Once inside there was a large smart looking room that was carpeted, the seating was a mix of bench type and normal tables and chairs, there may have been another room but i did/nt see one, there was signs saying there was a downstairs room which was for evenings only, probably for discos.
The pub was quite food orientated, but you could sit anywhere.
The pub was a Bass tied house, there were no real ales on the bar,i had a drink of keg Toby Light which was a pretty poor drink.
The pub has sadly been pulled down, there are now some very ugly looking flats on its site.
What a waste of such a nice building.
