The Watchmakers is a justifiably popular micro pub almost adjacent to Hove Station. Standard micropub features include perimeter seating options and five ales brought out from the cool room behind the bar. This is also where the half dozen ciders are stashed, while the 4 keg beers are served from taps protruding from the wall alongside.

A local ethos is preferred, with one of the ales even coming from the in-house brewery, though Manchester's Marble and New Bristol from, well, Bristol, both have one on the go.

The beer is excellent and there's no background music, just a quiet buzz of conversation.

Absolutely worth calling in.

This popular micro has an A-board on the pavement celebrating its selection as the local CAMRA branch's pub of the year. Opening at midday six days a week (closed Mondays) it also closes for the afternoon lull between 2 and 5 on the next three days. I arrived at 4:45 on a Tuesday so had a little time to kill, returning just as the owner was putting out the tables and chairs on the pavement. He returned quickly behind the bar and asked what he could get me, and I suddenly realised there was a queue behind me. Returning from the bar with my Bezel Bitter from the brewery on the premises, I noticed that several tables had been reserved, two of them for 5pm! When I left for my train at 5:20 there were a dozen customers, at least one of whom was on his second drink. I seem to have used up all the space, so please see the two previous reviews for a better description of this very good pub.

In some ways a stereotypical micro-pub, but in other ways not as it has its own micro-brewery attached somewhere at the back. Anyway, it looks and feels right, and you get a very friendly welcome, so it's easy to understand why this is a regular local Camra award winner. I found seven cask ales available, served by gravity from a small cool room behind the titchy counter, including their own TWA '///shins.former.mild' (from what3words) Mild (£4.60), and four craft keg beers from taps on the bar-back.
