Tucked in the back of an arts centre located in an old mansion, this bar is a light and airy room with a glazed wall behind columns giving a view over the parkland outside. An equally bright modernish restaurant is behind. The bar counter itself is faced with old wine boxes and carries three handpumps. These were all badged for Arkells beers but only the Big Hit (Rugby special) was on. Note it opens at 09.30 daily.

Great outdoor area and there is a pub walk to that starts and finishes at South Hill Park Arts Centre. https://www.ifootpath.com/display-ifootpath-walk?walkID=399 The walk provides some history and explores nearby Swinley Forest.

Lovely large building in huge grounds which serves as an arts centre with a bar to service the family end of the spectrum during the day and theatre-goers (Wilde Theatre) at night. Massive front beer field with kids play area, surrounded by mature woodland though the marquee out front obscures the view somewhat. Modern internal bar layout, with single-file queueing(!). Uninviting rear room for food, most people were doing the coffee and cake thing outside. Three ales on and a decent set; Ascot Alligator, Hobgoblin and W&E Guardsman. My Guardsman was a good drop though note that it’s plastic cups if you’re drinking outside. Unusual place but glad to know it’s here, I may well return. 6.5
