Blue Scrumpy left this review about Power, Corruption & Lies

After a few in the Hop and the Grove, we concluded our Monday evening in Leeds at this late night bar which was playing loud music and had a young-middle-aged crowd.

It's quite a large interior which stretches back a fair way. This also means that the bar against the left-hand wall is also quite long. This helps to accommodate the large number of bottles of spirits but there is a lot of unused space along the bar with just 8 keg taps, some of which were repeated. The only keg beers of note were Brooklyn Stonewall IPA & Kirkstall Virtuous. The cider was from Somersby.

Our visit gave the chance to try the Virtuous, which was surprisingly enjoyable. We were here after 1am on a Monday night. So, I wouldn't expect bars to be busy. This is certainly the best area in Leeds to have a late night drink. I'm not sure you'd find any cask beers around here but beggars can't be choosers.

I can't imagine I'd have been going through the door of this bar when it was called Norman, but the pull of Power, Corruption & Lies proved irresistible. It's bigger than I expected, going a long way back and having a line of white painted cast iron pillars down the middle, to give some width. The bar counter is on the left with two lots of four keg fonts, repeating the same four beers, and soon blending into the kitchen area at the rear. The shelves behind the bar have masses of bottles so I guess cocktails would be what they expect their customers to order. It was fairly quiet on a mid-week early evening, with no one sitting outside. I took my half of Kirkstall Virtuous to a high chair in the window and did a bit of people watching. What else can you do? I'm glad I came, just to say I've been, and now feel no need to come again. Oh, my notes made at the time say that the background music was ok, so just remember: you heard it here first.

Alan Winfield left this review about Norman Bar

The Norman is a new bar that is just up from the Revolution.
Once inside there is a long oblong shaped room which runs to the rear, the bar is to the front left.
The floor is stone and the seating bench type down the left side.
There are no real ales on the bar, this place seems to be more of a craft beer bar, that does not mean that much to me,but the service was friendly and i was offered a taster of any beer i wanted,i opted for a drink of Flying Dog Doggie Style Pale Ale which tasted quite nice but was far too fizzy for my liking.
The other keg beers on the bar were Brooklyn Ale,Shipyard Pale Ale and one more i could not read my notes of.
Background music was playing, this bar was a lot quieter and less busy than the Revolution just down from it.
