Visited back in January on a Friday afternoon. It was quiet around 1:30pm with just a couple of women in, but there was a nice vibe and atmosphere with low background music.

Four cask ales and all on at the time of my visit. Real Ale Finder app is used and was up to date. About 10 keg taps too, offering a few interesting options. My Mermaid of Zennor (Brid's Cross Brewing) set me back £2.35 for a half. The other cask options were from Kirkstall, Dunham and Brightside, with the Dunham offering being a stout.

There is a small seating area to the front with a couple of high tables, there is a drinking ledge with stools and then large drinks fridges to catch your eye. To the rear of the bar, there is a larger seating area with a mix of high and low seating types.

Also available is a bargain box of clearance beer, for take out only. I picked up a couple of Christmas themed beers for a reduced price that were well within date. Beer is for life, not just for Christmas.

The Schooner has patio furniture on the path out front, half of which is found under an awning. Inside is a bare board bar with high tables and a wooden serving counter on the rear wall, above which sits a screen that shows the available craft lagers and cask ales found on the four hand pumps. Bridgewater’ Blonde, Big Trip’s Chime, Brightside’s Grafters and Dunham’s Dark were available during my recent midweek evening visit. There are also a couple of tall fridges full of cans for those with brimming pockets. At the rear is a surprisingly large seating area and there was some background music playing, so whether this is a micropub is debatable. The service was polite and the Chime was on good form so I’d pop back in if passing.

Rob Hunter left this review about Prairie Schooner Taphouse

The Prairie Schooner Taphouse has an ever changing and interesting selection of real ales. The last time I went I even tried one of the keg options, which is not like me. The chalk board lists what is available and at what price. Usually quiet at lunch time in the week but pretty busy at weekends. We managed to jump on a table as a group left though, allowing us time to take in the impressive selection of bottles and cans on display. No issue with quality. One to visit when in Urmston!
