True micro pub, no bar as such, the owner produced my drink from a darkened room somewhere behind a screen. Locals were very friendly and its a nice place for a drink of ale - the choice is small but varied and well kept. Bench seating around the small room.

The only other customers both left as I walked into the Compass Alehouse on a recent Wednesday evening, so it was just me and the owner who was very friendly and chatty, so I didn’t get a chance to take any notes. I do remember high tables facing each other around the walls because conversation is encouraged. I had a very nice stout, but I can’t remember what it was as this was the last pub of a long walk around Gravesend. I’ll revisit next time I’m in town, which will probably be 2028.

It would seem the exterior has fallen into some poor repair and very tatty, to the extent I walked past it twice while seeking it out, the only give away that there is a pub here was the couple of empty casks placed on the road presumably to deter parking though one did get backed into with a clatter whilst I was there.
Once inside though it is still as PSM describes below and quite cosy and welcoming despite me being the only punter at 1pm on a Saturday. On my visit there were four cask, from gravity dispense, four keg and three Ciders on offer, I plumped for Kent Hygge an odd tasting stout that did grow on me in the end.
Don't read a book by Its cover, this is a decent micro.
