A shop conversion to a vibrant cafe bar, part of a small chain, open from 8am for breakfast, through to pub closing times. The interior is large and open plan, with many rows of large ceiling lamps emphasising the depth of the building. The floor is darkened wood, there are prints along one wall and very pleasing white tiling behind the small serving bar.The furniture is a nice mis- match of styles with some refectory tables in the middle of the room, smaller tables to the side so can accomodate large groups or single handers.
There is a cafe feel and coffee is popular. There is a terrace at the front for exterior drinking/ dining in good weather. Most folk are in to eat from the good value menu which includes tapas, paninis,a small range of mains and a long list of burgers. At lunchtime there are cheap deals and my soup and half panini were tasty and good value at £4.You order at the bar,and all tables are numbered. There is a buzzy atmosphere, with background muzak and an enthusistic team of young staff.
At the bar there are 6 keg taps, with two craft beers Cruiser Atlantic Pale Ale (pretty good but £3.85) and a stout from Bath Ales.Cocktails, wines and bottled beers also offered.
There is a Monday night quiz,so the place isnt totally dominated by food and the atmosphere inside is probably a lot more conducive for women than that of the 'spoons a few doors up.I doubt this "lounge" will appeal to pub traditionalists, but I enjoyed my lunchtime trip and this is a positive addition in a town not noted for great places to drink.
