The bar is part of the Royal Exeter Hotel, and broadly consists of an ante-room with comfortable seating and the bar itself, a long, wooden floored room with a bar counter down one side. The restaurant area is behind. Car parking is possible, but finding the entrance to the hotel’s car park can be tricky while the free spaces behind tend to disappear fast. The bar counter is largely barren, supporting slim pumps which dispense something other than ale. The only nod to real ale is some bottled Doombar in a cupboard at the back. The staff were quite pleasant, the customers a mixture of hotel guests, blind-daters and refugees from the Bournemouth International Centre, opposite. Cocktails are expensive but coffees are relatively cheap. The lack of ale precludes its inclusion in a crawl, even as an overture.
