The Duke of Cornwall is a Craft Union pub where three locals had gathered for some friendly gossip with the governor on a recent Tuesday afternoon. A well-trodden brown carpet that could do with vigorous lathering runs throughout and a stone fireplace with burner sits on the left-hand wall before the left rear L-shaped serving counter that supports standard keg alongside Madri. I opted for a pint of Carling which set me back £3.50 due to my visit falling in the mid-week 15:00 – 18:00 happy hours. Only after I ordered did I note the four pump clips on one of the serving counter’s posts. Doom Bar, Purity’s Gold, Old Rosie and another Weston’s cider were available. A chalkboard next to the counter advertises pub grub for around £10 a main.
To the right of the entrance is a raised area with a couple of tables and a dartboard and on the right-hand wall is another stone fireplace with burner. The serving counter extends up the left into a rear bar area where the hand pumps are located. In here is a pool table and a projector screen for airing the advertised BT Sport, I imagine the cutlery set on the tables disappears when the football in on. There is a jukebox which was stop-start playing random songs because no money had been put in. The service and atmosphere were friendly so I’d have no issue returning for another pint.
