The presence of this reviewer and some of my friends from Luton would have changed the age range quite drastically compared with Quinno's review (below), and probably the beard count too. Be that as it may, I quite enjoyed my brief stay here, as it's a convivial bar with good service, a pleasant atmosphere and a decent selection of beers. Unfortunately the one I chose was not really to my taste - if I want to drink something redolent of passion fruit, I'll buy some fruit juice rather than a beer - but the quality was fine. For a bar situated in one of Exeter city centre's least impressive buildings, this is a really nice pub.

A modern craft beer bar opened in January 2014, located in a nasty 70’s building that presumably saw former life as a small retail unit. Minimalist but at least tasteful décor (eg the trendy American diner-style seating) that only half-disguises the basic fabric of the building. No punter entertainment beyond some inevitably eclectic piped music. Seemingly pitched at the younger spectrum and I was the oldest punter by some distance. The only people here without beards were the (admittedly impressive amount of) ladies. Six ales and a number of craft keg taps at the bar. The ale was very good and determinedly local in range (Penpont, Exe Valley, O'Hanlons, Harbour, Tavy). The fridge was also well stocked. Staff were young but knowledgeable and clearly had a passion for what they were selling, which some professional middle-aged landlords could do well to learn from. Credit to the originators of this venture, they've sussed the zeitgeist and got in the right city to make it work. The GBG of 1974 would never have envisaged this kind of place, mind. I’d be happy to call back in and it should be a default stop in town, despite the less-then-homely interior.
