The Boat Inn is a decent looking pub.
We visited the pub five days after it reopened after having what looked like a lot of money spent on it.
Once inside the bar faces id a dog legged shaped room, there was comfy bench seating and chairs to the front left, the front right area looked more like a dining area.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Batemans Gold, which was a decent drink, the other beer was Batemans XB.
Background music was playing.
The pub was empty on our Saturday afternoon visit,my brother said it all smelt new.
Very strange that the pub has closed down again less than a month after it reopened.

We called in at the Boat as part of a cycle ride through Retford's villages. Just a swift half was all we were after, but the friendly manager offered us tasters of all the beers that were on. As this is a Springhead Brewery pub, these were three of their own beers, plus a guest (which I failed to note). Unfortunately, two of the three were off, in one case quite badly off, and should have been withdrawn after pulling through the pumps at opening time. I had the remaining good beer, Maid Marian, which although not really to my taste was in very good nick. After a new barrel had been put on, I was given a complimentary gill of Roaring Meg to make up for the faux pas with the tasters. The manager was very chatty, and brought us up to date on the progress, or lack thereof, with regard to their new pub in Retford: formerly the Anchor, to be called the Ginger Pig. That'll be a lot easier to get to than this one!
Date of visit: 31st July 2015 [The above info about the Anchor in Retford proved to be incorrect, as it has now reopened under the auspices of Idle Brewery instead.]
