Ocean Bar, Burnham-On-Sea

Tucked away in a side alley off the main road, this functional seaside bar is nonetheless easy to find as it is well sign posted. It has its own car park, a big advantage in Brean. The pub feels a bit labyrinthine, but once in there is the choice of sitting inside or on the terrace with its great view of the beach and the Bristol Channel. Inside is basic in terms of facilities, a bit lacking in atmosphere but comfortable enough. There are a couple of TV screens showing live sports, a bingo calling desk in one corner and a sound system that was playing a 60s music channel. The young barman was good company, happy to chat and a good source of local information. No real ale, so we settled for Proper Job from keg, which was remarkably cheap for the area. The other choices were Cruzcampo, Amstel, Inch’s Cider, John Smith’s, Banks’s Mild, Thatcher’s Gold and Moretti. Water was provided for the dogs. Not a destination of choice, but if you happen to be here it’s good enough for a drop-in.
