December 2013. Party of 9. Pre-booked. With it being the last Saturday before Christmas we had expected this place to be chocka. However, we were pleasantly surprised, even though we were eating rather early (4:30), as the place was comfortable with attentive bar staff and the meals were produced within a very quick time.
Let's get this straight as the Whistling Wren is part of the Marsdens group and at the time we visited they had a two for one menu on offer. Realistically the meals are expensive if you are eating on your own (or an odd number) and the 2for1 only brings the price down to what you would normally pay elsewhere in the region. Saying that, the meals were very well cooked and extremely tasty and the portions were plentiful. Starters and deserts again were a little on the expensive side but again were decent sized portions and very tasty.
All in all a very pleasurable experience and we would certainly call in again if ever in the area again.
