If I remember correctly, this was previously called “The Old Ropeworks,” which might explain the previous reviewer’s comments about its undeniable industrial appearance. Its location, half way down a cobbled alleyway and surrounded by derelict looking buildings also supports the view that it might not survive much longer. Intending visitors should be aware, however, that it’s very distinctly a “Rangers Pub.” This is obvious even from outside, as there are Red Hand of Ulster, King Billy and Union flags hanging above the door. Inside, the high ceilinged bar is bedecked with Rangers and Ulster Unionist photos, scarves and other memorabilia. There are blue covered padded seats along one wall and even blue baize on the pool table. The toilets are upstairs beside a closed off area which might once have been the lounge and a sign saying “Smoking Area” points to the lane outside. A pint of Belhaven Best cost me £3 and Stella Artois, Tennent’s lager and Magner’s cider were also on draught. There was a Guinness tap, but no Guinness. Annie Miller’s is best described as rough and ready and is unlikely to appeal to anyone who isn’t sympathetic to the causes it proclaims.
