A light and bright bar bistro attached to a golf course, accessed through a side alley rather than the function suite entrance. There is one slightly bland modern cafe-style room with a glass conservatory lean-to, a nice partly covered patio outside and the function suite adjoining. No handpump now, just Fosters, Kronenbourg and Symonds cider on keg, with London Pride, Doom Bar and Old Speckled Hen in bottle. Opens at 0900 for breakfast; other food of the burger/sandwich nature plus Sunday roast. Note the bar closes by 1700.

This is the bar of the Oaks Sports Centre, a public golf course and conference/banqueting centre situated in the Oaks park between Carshalton and Woodmansterne. To find the cafe/bar you have to walk round to the other side of the building from the car park to find a pleasant terrace overlooking the course. The bar itself betrays its local authority parentage and is much the same utilitarian affair as in any other leisure centre. You certainly wouldn't want to spend too much time there. However on a nice day the terrace makes a quiet and peaceful spot for a relaxing pint. There are some pleasant walks in the area too, around Oaks Park and maybe up to the lavender farm, and on to the Woodman, and this would make a nice pitstop if you are doing such a circuit. Drinks - well the usual lager plus a handpump serving (inevitably) London Pride though I didn't risk it the other day given the blistering heat and lack of throughput.
