This appears to be a conversion of shop premises on the ground floor of an old brick-built house in the town centre. There's a stage to the rear set up for a band to play, and food rather than beer appears to be the focus when music is not on. Nevertheless, there are three hand pumps which at the time of our late afternoon midweek visit were serving Greene King Old Speckled Hen and Abbot, plus Newby Wyke Comet. There are dining tables in the windows, high chairs near the bar and sofas towards the back, where there is also a pool table. An atrium towards the rear gives a lighter feel to the place than might be expected. Toilets are upstairs - I didn't see a disabled alternative.

Date of visit: 1st July 2015. This bar closed permanently at the end of July (see Facebook).

Clean comfortable venue, friendly welcome, excellent food well presented on the plate, at a reasonable price. I can heartily recommend the rump steak and the mixed grill.
