Visited 19/02/26. Visited previously 14/02/24.

Cask was GK IPA, Abbot, Doom Bar, Thornbridge Jaipur, Oakham Citra, Gadd's Dark Conspiracy Porter. Keg was Stella, Corona, Leffe Blonde, Bud Light, Worthington CF, Carling, K1664, original and dark fruits SB, Angelo Poretti, Guinness, Weston's Stowford Press, Coors, Carling, Shipyard Pale Ale, Budweiser, Stella, Carlsberg, Mad Squirrel Sumo APA, BrewDog Punk IPA, Seven Brothers Easy IPA, Leffe Blonde.

This is an industrial scale JDW in Cardiff Bay. Glass fronted and on two levels with some outside seating on the ground floor around the perimeter via picnic benches and then some similar seating on the balcony level on the first floor. On the ground floor inside, the bar counter runs along the rear wall and is on a ceramic tiled skirt in an otherwise bare boarded or faux wood tiled floor. The tables on both floors are tightly packed and are a mixture of tall and regular with commensurate seating. Upstairs has its own bar counter on the wall opposite the stairs and a subset of the cask ales, with tightly packed regular tables and chairs. Was expecting it to be busy given half-term, but it was just busy absent families with kids and seems the go to venue for food and drinks in the bay. My pint of superbly kept Oakham Citra was less than £2 so it doesn't take a genius to work out why JDW routinely pack out these large capacity venues. My only gripe was that other than the cask stalwarts, have seen more interesting extra cask in the other JDW’s in Cardiff Central, but this place probably attracts a slightly different crowd and so it is very understandable as to what it is here.

A large glass affair situated right next to the bay. On two floors. Fairly busy and service was slow on my Friday afternoon visit. Not really worth travelling the distance out of town for unless just for the tick.

Modern Spoons in the yuppified Cardiff Bay area. It’s a glass plated building grafted onto an old red brick warehouse with a fairly predictable ‘industrial utilitarian’ interior. On the ground floor it’s rather squished and uncomfortable, some outside seating but only a couple of tables command much in the way of a view. However it’s much nicer and calmer upstairs including a balcony with plenty of vista to be had. Only one guest cask on, a very good Hogs Back TEA (NBSS 3.5) which was substantially cheaper than expected at £2.13 once the Timbo Token had been applied (to much confusion from the barmaid). Serves a core function by being here and worth ticking off if you're down near the Senedd but it’s probably not worth the 30 minute walk from Central otherwise. I’ll be generous with a 6 because of the view. 5.5
